Employment Opportunities

The WCCCA recognises traditional ownership and provides community with a range of benefits, including but not limited to: employment, training, cultural heritage and site protection, cultural awareness, support for ranger programs and educational bursaries, relinquishment of land, and a royalty stream to charitable trusts for community benefit purposes.

Rio Tinto (RT) provides Direct Employment and/or Traineeships for approved applicants from the Traditional Owner Groups who were party to the WCCCA. The 11 Traditional Owner Groups of the WCCCA are: Alngith, Anathangayth, Ankamuthi, Peppan, Taepadhighi, Thanikwithi, Tjungundji, Warranggu, Wathayn, Wik and Wik-Waya and Yupungathi.

Pilot Work Experience Program with the State

This year the WCCT will be running a pilot volunteer work experience opportunity in partnership with the State. To be eligible to participate students must meet the below criteria.

  1. Be enrolled in a school in Queensland.
  2. Be over 14 years of age.
  3. Be able to successfully complete a alcohol and other drugs test (AOD) if required.
  4. Reside in Cairns or Weipa.
  5. Complete the required information pack paperwork return to the WCCT Admin team.

This is an ongoing opportunity to enable our Year 10/11/12 students to participate during their school holidays
