Employment Opportunities

The WCCCA recognises traditional ownership and provides community with a range of benefits, including but not limited to: employment, training, cultural heritage and site protection, cultural awareness, support for ranger programs and educational bursaries, relinquishment of land, and a royalty stream to charitable trusts for community benefit purposes.

Rio Tinto (RT) provides Direct Employment and/or Traineeships for approved applicants from the Traditional Owner Groups who were party to the WCCCA. The 11 Traditional Owner Groups of the WCCCA are: Alngith, Anathangayth, Ankamuthi, Peppan, Taepadhighi, Thanikwithi, Tjungundji, Warranggu, Wathayn, Wik and Wik-Waya and Yupungathi.

Have you finished high school recently, and  looking for work or considering further education? DATSIP may be able to assist you through the Youth Employment Program (YEP). More information is available on the information sheet on the downloadable resources or email yep@datsip.qld.gov.au for more information.

There will be an opportunity for Bursary Students in Years 10/11/12 who are enrolled in school outside of Weipa to attend a Work Experience opportunity with Rio Tinto Weipa in the last week of Term 3 (16-20 September 2018). There are 10 places available.

To be eligible to participate students must;

  1. Be enrolled in a school in Queensland.
  2. Be able to successfully complete and Alcohol and other drugs test (AOD).
  3. Complete the required Contractor Induction and provide their USI by 20 May 2018, and return evidence to the WCCT Admin Team.
  4. Return all requested documentation to the WCCT Admin Team by 20 May 2018.

The WCCCA is now taking expressions of interest for employment at the Achimbun Building. To express your interest, you will need to complete and submit the relevant form on the right. Please note, that form does not constitute an offer of employment.
